Mohegia 26×4 Tire Review Yesterday I installed and tested out my new Mohegia 26×4 tires. These tires are very similar to the HEB Viperess, and I imagine they offer a similar riding experience. My set are 30 TPI with a max PSI of 36, and I inflated them to 30 PSI for testing. Quality: The build quality is impressive. These tires have a thick sidewall and heavy-duty tread, almost like motorcycle tires, in my opinion. You can definitely feel the weight when riding, which adds to their sturdiness. They’re also marketed as puncture-resistant, and I’m inclined to believe it. I still use FlatOut for added peace of mind, but the tires themselves seem tough. Even though they’re 4-inch tires, they’re a bit wider than the stock Kendas due to the tread extending down the sidewalls. Despite that, they fit perfectly with no issues at all. Installation: Installation was straightforward. The tires went on easily, and the old ones came off without any trouble. The only hiccup I ran into was when I tried to reinstall the rear tire with my bike on the rack….it was just too heavy to get lined up with the dropouts. This is my first repair rack and I guess doing your tires on the rack is not something that can typically be done! At least I can't – I'm still unable to lift and hold in place more than about 20lbs with the arm/shoulder I broke earlier this year. I ended up flipping the bike over to install it. Has anyone else noticed how tight the fit is with the dropouts? I had to use a rubber mallet to get the tire in place, but I suppose a snug fit is a good thing. Overall, it took me about an hour to swap both tires. Ride: The ride is smooth and quiet, though you can feel the weight of the tires while riding. I actually think I'm going to decrease the PSI a bit for a softer ride. The tires feel hard on the ground and I assume it's because of the thickness of the tread. They corner exceptionally well, gripping the asphalt and giving a solid, stable feel. I’ve also tried them on gravel, and they perform decently. The only issue I’ve noticed, and it's not a big issue is that the tread picks up small gravel pieces, which get tossed into the fenders, causing a constant "pinging" sound as the rocks hit. This wasn’t something I experienced with the Kendas. As for off-roading, I’m talking flat single track with ruts, not uphill/downhill they performed exceptionally well. I don't know how they would perform with some serious off-roading only because I don't do that. When it comes to high-speed riding, these tires feel solid and safe. They’ve reduced my top speed by about 2 mph, but that’s a trade-off I’m willing to make for the added stability. Acceleration from a stop seems unaffected, which is a plus. Overall: I’m really happy with these tires, especially for the added sense of security at higher speeds. If you’re looking for tires that reduce the likelihood of flats and offer a safer ride at speed, I’d definitely recommend the Mohegia 26×4 tires.
